Rei - pronounced Ray, Ki - pronounced Key
Rei meaning universal, and Ki meaning life energy
Reiki has evolved as an energy medicine that can be understood through advanced physics principles. Lifeforce energy flows through every one of us, if our life force energy is low we are more likely to feel stressed or become ill. If our life force energy is high and free-flowing we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The system of Reiki evolved in Japan through the dedication and experience of Dr Mikao Usui, who learned from ancient teachers and devoted his life to study, research, meditation and the practice and teaching of Reiki.
Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from master to student. For those who practice Reiki, it becomes a way of life. Anyone who practices Reiki must try to live by the Daily Reiki Principles:
Just for today -
Anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment. The only prerequisite is the desire to be healed. You do not even have to believe in Reiki to benefit from it, and you do not have to have anything "wrong" with you to benefit.
At the first treatment, a client consultation is carried out to provide some background information about you, including any illness. It is also established what you hope to gain from your Reiki experience. You will lie on a couch fully clothed. The aim is to relax (the treatment can be given in a seated position if unable to lie down). The main requirement is for you to be as comfortable as possible.
I will then tune into Reiki energy, before holding my hands lightly on various positions on and around the head, before moving on to the throat area where the hands are held off the body for comfort, and then moving further down the body. At times, I may hold my hands off the body and gently move my hands across the top of the aura scanning the whole body for blockages in energy. Reiki works closely with the body Chakras.
I work with intuition, being drawn to areas where Reiki is required.
Reiki has a similar effect on the body and mind as meditation.
Clients report various things after a Reiki session, which seem to be personal to the individual. Some will feel heat or intense coldness from my hands, some will feel tingling sensations, or feelings of electricity in different areas of their body, some feel a heavy sensation in different areas of the body, while others can feel light and floaty, some see colors and pictures in their mind. It is a really very individual experience. Many clients feel a reduction in pain or a release of stress and anxiety, and all feel deeply relaxed and at ease.
Many Reiki practitioners believe 1-hour of Reiki can be the equivalent of 3-4 hours of deep relaxing sleep.
Reiki can be effectively used as a release of stress and promotion of relaxation and can restore vital energy lost in daily life. Reiki promotes health, healing, balance and wholeness. It is creative energy useful for preventing imbalance and re-enforces the body's ability to heal itself.
Regular Reiki promotes personal and spiritual growth, expands human consciousness and can stimulate intuitive, spiritual and creative awareness.
Reiki can do no harm and works in the best interest and for the positive benefits of the person receiving it.
