The art of Baby Massage has been appreciated for centuries...

Baby massage has been around since the Chinese Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911) and has its origins in Ayurvedic medicine in India, dating back as far as 1800BC. The city of Kerala in India is where the art of baby massage originated, where babies from one month to six months are still massaged morning and evening for 20 mins (Leboyer 1997).

Benefits For Baby

  • Helps baby adapt to a new environment
  • Helps baby adapt to his first language of touch
  • Enhances baby's feelings of being loved, respected and secure
  • Promotes relaxation, improving quality of sleep
  • Helps baby cope with stressful situations
  • Reduces the discomfort of colic, wind and constipation
  • Regulates strengthens digestive, respiratory and immune systems
  • Stimulates circulatory system and nervous system
  • Helps baby get used to touching, especially important for babies who may have been subject to intrusive procedures from early or difficult births, or difficult start in life and lots more.

As a baby massage instructor, I run baby led, massage courses in Dundee and the surrounding area. Using a massage doll to demonstrate a sequence of strokes each week, ensuring you are aware of any cautions related to each stroke, and advising you of the benefits each stroke offers. The massage is built up over 5 weeks, building into a full body massage for your baby. Once the course is complete you will be able to massage your baby safely and confidently. You will also learn how to adapt the massage as your baby grows, for each age and stage of development.

My baby massage classes include a little "gentle touch" baby reflexology, easy to access those squishy little feet while out on the move. Baby feet are super sensitive and do not require pressure, only a very gentle energetic touch in the right place at the right time.

Alongside the baby massage and reflex there are weekly focussed discussions, facilitated by a little homework, and some much needed relaxation for mum (or dad!), it's also a wonderful way to make new and lasting friendships for both mums and babies.

I will personally teach each weekly session to ensure continuity.

Baby massage helps to promote healthy emotional and physical development in your baby.

It is preferred that babies have had the 6 - 8 week check prior to starting massage classes, this is for various reasons including, some very young babies can feel over stimulated by the massage, and this is usually a time when babies hips are checked. If you wish to commence classes before this, then I request that you sign a disclaimer form.

If your little one is suffering from colic, a Colic sequence can be taught from an earlier age, once it has been established by GP that there are no other reasons for abdominal pain or distress.

You will learn, when it is safe and appropriate to massage, contraindications to massage, how to recognize your baby's non-verbal cues, how to help settle a fussy, disorganised or hypersensitive baby which oils are safest to use, how to store the oils, how to adapt the massage for both your needs and your growing baby's needs, well into childhood.

At this time there are currently no classes planned for the remainder of 2023.

There are only 8 places on my courses, this ensures quality teaching, If you would like to add your name to a waitlist please message through the email facility on this website including your telephone no, and best times to call you. I will then call to introduce myself and from their send over all the required information for enrolment.

your investment for this course is £55, to be paid at time of booking.

No refunds given, so please ensure you are free to attend the full 5 weeks.

Sorry, but siblings can not attend (this is for the benefit of both yourself and the other attendees. Ensuring you get the most out of your 5 weeks).

I can also offer one to one over zoom or group teaching .

Groups are kept small and supportive, with up to 8 maximum.

I am also happy to work with other agencies. I have experience of working with children and families from disadvantaged backgrounds in this capacity - having previously been a "sure start" Family support worker for a local authority. Please call to discuss any ideas or questions you may have.

Story Massage

A natural follow on from baby massage or a perfect stand-alone therapy to learn.

Story Massage combines the many benefits of Positive Touch with the creativity of storytelling.

It is age-neutral, so can be used from the very young to the very old ( some therapists are teaching it or carrying it out in nursing homes with the elderly who often have little physical contact, and miss the benefits of Positive Touch).

It’s adaptable, fun and inclusive of all. I have successfully run a workshop for carers/parents of children with profound needs, and I know they are continuing to use Story Massage in their home routines.

You learn 10 basic massage strokes, which are the basis of the story massage protocol. When you have mastered the strokes it’s a case of using your own imagination and making your own stories up or using the strokes with well-loved stories, songs and rhymes.

Baby & Childrens Reflexology

Gentle touch reflexology is exactly as it sounds and is excellent for babies and children. It is a wonderful modality that is based on 3 levels, physical, emotional and energetic - it is very gentle, extremely soothing, yet very effective. You may see the positive effects of treatment throughout the session, or later that day, or they may become apparent over a period of time. All depending on focus of treatment.

A little Gentle Touch reflexology is included in my baby massage classes. This enables you to be able to use some selected reflexology points to be able to support your baby at home.

Young babies really only need 5 - 10 minutes of reflexology, building the length of time up slowly as the baby grows. As the baby gets older the feet will grow rapidly, the first year of a babies life is very important in the development of feet - they will reach almost half of their adult foot size in the first year

As more and more families are taking notice and being proactive in their own families wellbeing, researching health and taking more responsibility for their families future health, and encouraging healthy habits. It is a good idea to introduce your little one to reflexology at an early age. This gets them used to their feet being touched , so that when they reach toddlerhood and early childhood reflexology is accepted as part of their care routine.

Little feet are very soft, sensitive and pliable, you really do not want to apply pressure to a babies foot, but you do want to carry out a treatment with confidence, calmness and purpose.

Functional Reflex Therapy

What exactly is Functional Reflex Therapy ?

Functional Reflex therapy (FRT), also known as the Rainbow Relaxation Routine is an easy to learn combination of relaxation techniques drawn from reflexology. Designed to empower those who support children and adults with autistic spectrum disorders, learning difficulties and complex needs with the skills to deliver a short repetitive relaxation routine, that can be carried out at a time suitable to you and your child.

The FRT package is unique in that it encourages you to use objects of reference such as symbols, photographs and objects that may help to promote communication.

Why use FRT?

FRT provides a wonderful sensory experience for the receiver and may encourage the release of feel-good chemicals throughout the body, which may help to:

  • Promote relaxation
  • Improve mood
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Support wellbeing
  • Encourage the receiver to be more receptive
  • Encourage social interaction
  • Have a positive effect on the issues that affect individuals and people around them in many areas of their everyday lives.

FRT can be learned through a workshop, this can be in the comfort of your own home or at a local venue depending on requirement.

FRT can also be used as a reflexology session in its own right for your child or children within an educational environment (with parental or guardian permission).

  • The workshop is designed to be friendly, fun and informative, it teaches the routines to be applied to both the hand and the foot.
  • The workshop would require two 2 1/2 hour sessions, held over consecutive weeks.
  • The workshop will provide all handouts to support your new skills.
  • If the child/adult you are thinking of would prefer hand only or foot only for some reason please do discuss this with me.

By learning the routine through an FRT workshop, you will learn the basic skills and routines demonstrated by myself (a qualified FRT reflexologist) for the benefit of you and your family. This workshop does not provide you with a reflexology qualification to teach others.

If you are from an educational background and feel FRT could benefit children ( and /or the staff) in your school and would like to consider setting up FRT sessions and wish to discuss this further please do get in touch through the website as this is possible on a sessional basis.

I am available to run workshops for parents, schools and nurseries, groups such as Brownies and cubs, and care homes for the elderly to run Story Massage or Rainbow routine sessions

If you would like to discuss further please do get in touch.

Hot Stone Reflexology

Hot stone reflexology is deeply relaxing and absolute bliss. Don't just take it from me. Try it for yourself.

Please ensure your complete lower leg can be accessed for this treatment.

Your legs will be covered in an organic medium to allow the heated basalt stones to glide with ease. The legs are massaged from just below the knee down the leg, onto the foot and the sole of the foot. The stones are then used to work on all of the usual reflexology points. The heat from the stones allows the stones to work deeper into the muscle tissue, and reflex points- bringing physiological changes as well as influencing the body's internal energy flow (Chi), therefore bringing balance to both body and mind. Taking you down to a deeper level of relaxation.

Winter is a very popular time for this treatment as it is great for warming up those cold feet. A very relaxing and luxurious treat that packs a healing punch!
